Piers Morgan brands Donald Trump "insane" for disinfectant claims

Piers Morgan brands Donald Trump "insane" for suggesting that disinfectant could be used to cure coronavirus.

Piers Morgan has branded President Donald Trump "insane" for suggesting that injections of disinfectant may provide the answer to coronavirus.

Speaking at his daily press briefing on Thursday, Trump revealed that he was impressed by the performance of disinfectant when confronted with COVID-19, claiming that it "knocks it out in a minute".

The President then went on to ponder whether there could be some kind of "injection on the inside" so that disinfectant could set about "cleaning out the lungs".

The idea has been met with widespread derision, including from friend and Good Morning Britain host Morgan.

"This is not just insane, it's also incredibly dangerous," he wrote on Twitter. "If Americans now die from injecting themselves with disinfectant, their deaths will be solely on President @realDonaldTrump. He needs to stop airing these absurd & reckless theories - NOW."

Dettol, Toilet Duck, Cillit Bang and Barry Scott all began trending on Twitter following Trump's press conference.
