Kanye West has given a three-hour podcast interview in which he compared himself to "a superhero" and accused doctors of trying to "kill genius".
The 43-year-old, who is bi-polar, has endured a tumultuous year which manifested itself in a series of alarming social media rants over the summer in which he described his mother-in-law Kris Jenner as a "white supremacist", claimed he was trying to divorce wife Kim Kardashian and compared the music industry to the slave trade.
In another bizarre moment this year West announced his intention to challenge Donald Trump for the US Presidency and with nine days until polling day, he remains on the campaign trail giving media interviews.
Reflecting on 2020 so far in an interview with Joe Rogan's podcast, he said: "They put me on this medication that made me gain a lot of weight, and I said 'I'm not gonna take this'. And they said, 'okay we got a medication you can take where you won't gain weight'.
"And this shows you they were trying to kill a superhero, slowly trying to kill genius trying to make me not feel like I could run for president."
He added: "It destroyed my confidence. It made me this shell of who I really am. It greyed over my eyes. It made the mustang not buck anymore."
The latest data shows that West is polling at around 2% nationally, although he is only set to appear on the ballot in 11 of 50 states after missing most of the filing deadlines.
