HBO renews Last Week Tonight With John Oliver for three more years.

HBO has confirmed that it has renewed Last Week Tonight With John Oliver for three more years.

The weekly news commentary show has been part of the HBO schedule since 2014, airing more than 200 episodes and winning 16 Emmy Awards.

The renewal - for 30 episodes a year over the next three years - means that the show will stay on the air until at least the end of 2023, covering the majority of the next presidential term.

"We're all extremely happy to be able to continue to do our show on HBO for another three years, or until the end of the world - whichever comes first," said Oliver in a statement.

Casey Bloys, HBO's CCO, added: "For the past seven years, John and his incredibly talented team have taken on topics that are both in the public mind and off the beaten path, always managing to shed new light on these subjects with intelligence and searing humour.

"We are beyond thrilled to continue this relationship for three more years."

The show, which airs in the UK on Sky Comedy, is currently on a brief hiatus but will return at the end of the month for the run-up to the presidential election in November.
