Imelda Marcos documentary The Kingmaker 'banned in Thailand'

Imelda Marcos documentary The Kingmaker is reportedly banned from being screened in the south of Thailand.

The Kingmaker has reportedly been banned from being screened in the South of Thailand amid growing civil unrest.

The film tells the story of Imelda Marcos, the former First Lady of the Philippines who was alleged to have amassed a multibillion-dollar fortune with her husband while the country suffered a severe financial crisis.

The 91-year-old is interviewed in depth about her behaviour in the documentary, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and has aired in the UK on the Sky Documentaries channel.

According to Variety, the film has been shown in the North of Thailand and Bangkok for several weeks but establishments in the south of the country have now been told that it cannot be screened there.

The news comes as protests have been breaking out around Thailand over the recent installation of a military-led government which has been accused of being anti-democratic and corrupt.
