Jason Connery confirms father Sean Connery had "been unwell for some time"

The son of Sean Connery confirms that the acting legend had been "unwell for some time" prior to his death at the age of 90.

Jason Connery has given a statement following the death of his father Sean Connery overnight in the Bahamas.

Earlier today it was confirmed that the acting legend - best known for playing James Bond - had passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 90.

Speaking to BBC News, Connery's actor son Jason, 57, revealed that his dad "had many of his family who could be in the Bahamas around him" when he died.

He added: "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time.

"A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

The family have not disclosed Connery's cause of death or the nature of his long-term illness.
