Tenet tops £5 million at UK Box Office

New Christopher Nolan epic Tenet enjoys a huge opening at the UK Box Office.

Christopher Nolan's Tenet enjoyed a stellar opening at the UK Box Office, with early figures suggesting that it has drawn more than £5.3 million since its release on Wednesday.

The takings represent the biggest weekly total since 1917 pulled in £6.2 million in the last week of January as the cinema industry begins to get back on its feet after being wiped out for much of the year by coronavirus.

The sci-fi epic, which stars John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, had already been delayed three times prior to its release but enjoyed a strong opening weekend right across Europe, pulling in £39.7 million.

"We are off to a fantastic start internationally and couldn't be more pleased," said Warner Bros chairman Toby Emmerich.

"Christopher Nolan has once again delivered an event worthy motion picture that demands to be seen on the big screen, and we are thrilled that audiences across the globe are getting the opportunity to see Tenet."

The movie opens in the US, China and Russia next weekend.
