Filming finishes on new series of The Great British Bake Off

Channel 4 confirms that the new series of The Great British Bake Off has completed filming, meaning that it can now air this autumn as planned.

Channel 4 has confirmed that filming on the new series of The Great British Bake Off has been completed as planned.

The show had been due to be shot between April and June but those plans were put on ice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, as lockdown restrictions began to ease the production was switched to a closed-set format that allowed the hosts, judges, contestants and crew to all isolate together for the duration of the shoot.

A tweet on the show's official account published today read: "Filming has wrapped on the new series of The Great British Bake Off. More news soon..."

The development means that the new series, which will run to 10 episodes, will be able to make it to air this autumn, with a September premiere date now highly likely.

The new series will be the first to feature Matt Lucas as presenter, with the comedian replacing Sandi Toksvig as co-host for Noel Fielding.
