Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has been allowed to phone her husband Derek Draper, who remains seriously ill with coronavirus in intensive care.
The 52-year-old has now been in hospital for a full month after contracting COVID-19 and his condition has yet to improve, leaving him in a "critical" state.
Garraway is unable to visit Draper although her long-time co-host Ben Shephard revealed today that she is able to phone up and speak to him, even though he is unable to respond.
"It's a dreadful time and I think she's at home with two children and trying to keep it going," he said on this morning's show. "It's a total unknown. But as she said, as long as he's here there's absolute hope.
"Twenty four hours at a time and she rightly pointed out, he's getting extraordinary care, she gets the chance to phone in the evenings and talk to him."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday announced that the UK is now past the peak of the pandemic but social distancing measures are expected to remain for many months to come.
