Michael Wildman quits his role as Al Chapman on Emmerdale after three years.

Michael Wildman has quit his role as Al Chapman on Emmerdale after three years, it has emerged.

Rumours about the actor's future on the soap had been rife in recent weeks after he signed up to appear in a pantomime this Christmas.

Exact details of Al's exit storyline have yet to be revealed, although in this week's episodes he gets caught up in a confrontation with Cain (Jeff Hordley), who discovers Al's affair with sister Chas (Lucy Pargeter).

A source told The Sun: "Michael has really enjoyed his time at Emmerdale but it's the right thing to move on.

"He's had some massive storylines but all good things must come to an end."

News of Wildman's departure comes days after the confirmation that Fiona Wade is to leave her role as Priya Sharma in the coming months.
