Three female characters in Emmerdale will reportedly be left "fighting for their lives" in a new stunt storyline airing next month.
According to The Sun, the scenes - filmed a fortnight ago - see a car plunge into a frozen lake with three passengers inside.
One of the women in question is Leyla (Roxy Shahidi), who is known to be leaving the soap early next year and could be one of the characters to die in the accident.
The identities of the two other women have not been revealed, although Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) and Ella (Paula Lane) are also departing the Dales in the near future.
"The bosses want viewers to have their hearts in their mouths when they see the car career off the road and into the water," a source said.
"It's a nightmare scenario and everything was done to make sure this was a scene with real impact. Hours were spent creating a layer of ice, then the actors spent hours out on the frozen field in the pitch black trying to do the storyline justice.
"It will be a real heartstopper moment when it airs in January."
Emmerdale continues weekdays from 7am on ITVX and at 7.30pm on ITV1.
