Ross Kemp provides update on Dame Barbara Windsor

Ross Kemp reveals that close friend Dame Barbara Windsor still recognises him as she settles into life in her new care home.

Ross Kemp has revealed that he has been FaceTiming with former EastEnders colleague and close friend Dame Barbara Windsor as she settles into life in her new care home.

The 83-year-old acting legend was moved into a care home in August due to her worsening Alzheimer's, which had left her husband Scott Mitchell unable to cope with her day-to-day needs.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Kemp revealed the positive news that she is still able to recognise him but he fears that she will never see an improvement to her health.

"The reason I'm [speaking about the Royal British Legion] today is because, effectively, I'm standing in for [Barbara]," he said.

"I spoke to her on Sunday on FaceTime with her husband Scott, she recognised me, but we have to be realistic that there is no cure for Alzheimer's.

"It's probably not going to get much better for her."

Windsor was diagnosed with the condition in 2014 and decided to keep her diagnosis secret until after she had filmed Peggy Mitchell's exit from the BBC soap.
