Clair Norris - aka Bernadette - is to take a mini-break from EastEnders as part of "a dramatic storyline".

Clair Norris is to take a mini-break from EastEnders as part of "a dramatic storyline" that will see her character Bernadette leave Walford.

Bernie is currently serving as a surrogate for Rainie (Tanya Franks) and Stuart (Ricky Champ) but in recent episodes she has been questioning handing over the baby when it is born and in a shock twist, she will decide to leave the square in the near future.

"Bernie's exit is part of a dramatic storyline and has been known for months," a source told The Sun.

"Bosses know it will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

"Clair remains a member of the cast and will return to filming soon."

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.35pm on BBC One.
