Doctor Who prequel promised ahead of Rose screening

Ex-Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies reveals plans to release a "prequel" ahead of the mass rewatch of 'Rose' on Thursday.

Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has promised "prequel" footage ahead of this Thursday's Tweetalong screening of 'Rose'.

Who fans have decided to watch the first episode of the rebooted series from 2005, starring Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, simultaneously around the world at 7pm UK time on Thursday.

Davies has already promised to tweet along production insights in tandem with the screening of the episode, and now has said that he will release the "never seen before" prequel to the Doctor Who website earlier on Thursday.

A message posted by Davies on Instagram seems to suggest that the unreleased footage was originally filmed for the 50th anniversary episode from 2013, which starred Piper but not Eccleston.

ROSE livestream and tweet-a-long, THURSDAY 26 MARCH at 7pm GMT. Come and have fun! Before that, Thursday daytime, time TBC, we'll release ROSE: THE PREQUEL on the BBC's Doctor Who website - it's a lost piece of history from the 50th anniversary year, 2013. Never seen before! ROSE is available in the UK on BBC iPlayer and Netflix; worldwide, check your own resources (don't ask me, I have no clue!). If you can't find a copy, close your eyes at 7pm GMT and feel my psychic link. Yeah. I'll be tweeting along, twitter handle to be named on Thursday! Plus more surprise to come.
