Sue Devaney signs new Coronation Street contract

Sue Devaney signs a new deal keeping her in the role of Debbie Webster on Coronation Street until at least April 2022.

Sue Devaney has announced a new deal keeping her on Coronation Street until at least April 2022.

The actress first appeared as Debbie Webster, younger sister of Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) in 1984, leaving the soap a year later.

After an absence of 34 years, Devaney reprised the role in 2019 and made her comeback permanent last year as part of the ongoing street redevelopment storyline at the hands of dastardly Ray Crosby (Mark Frost).

The character has become a firm favourite with viewers and now the soap has moved to tie her down to a deal keeping her in Weatherfield for the longer term.

"I absolutely love playing Debbie and I've just signed a new contract that will take me to April 2022," she said.

"When I first came back, I never imagined I would be around for that length of time and I'm delighted.

"Every day, when I drive into work, I have a big grin on my face. I'm so happy to be here."

Next week Debbie and Kevin are involved in a storyline that sees them locked in the Bistro's walk-in fridge by Ray as he tries to flee the street.
