Samia Longchambon has admitted that her Coronation Street character Maria is "concerned" about the renewed closeness between husband Gary (Mikey North) and his ex Sarah (Tina O'Brien).
Over the last few months Maria has moved into protective mum mode after learning that 14-year-old son Liam had contemplated suicide due to bullying.
Gary, meanwhile, has not only supported his wife through the ordeal but has also provided a shoulder to lean on for ex-girlfriend Sarah during her own worries over daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon).
Maria became aware of Gary and Sarah's closeness through a hidden camera she had installed to keep track of Liam, leading to inevitable tensions in their marriage.
"She's had all the stuff with Liam to worry about and now this has just given her something else to be concerned about," said Longchambon, who has now been on the cobbles for 24 years.
"She's never been happy about Gary and Sarah's friendship after them previously being together and she's always had her doubts about whether they've still got feelings for each other so it's another thing making her massively insecure."
She added: "I think they have built a really good, strong relationship over the last few years so I think if they get through this they will come out stronger than ever... but it's whether they'll be able to get through it or not. "
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
