A cobbles favourite is killed off as Coronation Street's Horror Nation Street week of episodes reaches its climax.

Coronation Street's Horror Nation Week of episodes came to a climax tonight with the shock death of cobbles favourite Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley).

Johnny had found himself trapped with estranged wife Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) in a Victorian sewer underneath the street with the water level rising as a rescue crew tried unsuccessfully to free them via a manhole.

Having taken matters into her own hands, Shona (Julia Goulding) followed the pair down into the sewers and managed to rescue Jenny with the aid of a rope.

Johnny was not to be so lucky, however, and with the voice of his dead son Aidan in his ears he passed away in the freezing water, leaving Jenny screaming in distress.

As Jenny was brought back on to the street, a waiting Carla (Alison King) learned the devastating news that her dad had died.

Elsewhere, the fate of Natasha (Rachel Leskovac) was left hanging in the balance after she was shot by Harvey (Will Mellor) in a case of mistaken identity for Leanne (Jane Danson).

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
