'Benidorm' actor joins 'Coronation Street' cast

Benidorm actor Tony Maudsley joins the cast of Coronation Street as Archie Shuttleworth's son.

Benidorm actor Tony Maudsley has revealed that he has joined the cast of Coronation Street.

The 52-year-old, who appeared in the ITV comedy for seven years, will play the part of Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd)'s son.

The character of Shuttleworth was killed off off-screen two years ago, while Hudd died last month at the age of 83 after "a short illness".

Asked about his part in Corrie on Twitter, Maudsley replied: "Yes I can indeed confirm this to be true.

"I'm chuffed to be staying at my ITV home and heading to Weatherfield and I for one, couldn't be happier.

"As a long time fan of Coronation Street I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of my favourite show. Here's to the next exciting chapter."

Maudsley is not thought to have filmed any scenes before the coronavirus shutdown and will first be seen on screens later in the year.
