TalkTV host Piers Morgan suggests that his channel and GB News can co-exist in the fight for TV ratings.

TalkTV host Piers Morgan has said that he does not believe his channel and GB News are "direct competitors" in the market for TV news.

The station - funded by Rupert Murdoch - launched one year ago, 10 months on from GB News, as the first new news channels in the UK for the last two decades.

Both channels are perceived to be right-leaning, leading analysts to predict that in the fight for audiences, one - or both - may be forced to close.

Speaking to Deadline about the competition, Morgan said: "Is there room for both? Maybe. Does it make more sense to think down the line that there might be one rather than two [channels]? Possibly.

"But I don't really see us as direct competitors, we just happen to be swimming in the same news pool."

According to the latest data from TV ratings organisation BARB, GB News is currently averaging an audience share of 0.42% of the UK TV market, while TalkTV is managing just 0.14%. Both channels remain in the shadow of BBC News and Sky News, however, with respective shares of 1.25% and 0.79%.
