GB News channel to hire more than 100 journalists

The new channel headed up by Andrew Neil intends to hire more than 100 journalists in the coming months ahead of its launch in the New Year.

GB News, the new TV news channel headed up by Andrew Neil, intends to hire more than 100 journalists in the coming months.

Plans for the new network were confirmed last week when veteran broadcaster Neil quit the BBC and joined GB News as its chairman and flagship primetime presenter.

The channel aims to shake up the broadcasting landscape with an alternative agenda focussed on serving viewers who are "underserved and unheard" by the perceived metropolitan bias of traditional news networks.

Neil and chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos - former CEO of Sky News Australia - will now oversee an extensive hiring process to bring on board more than 100 journalists from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The inclusion of Northern Ireland in the equation confirms that despite its name, GB News intends to be aimed at the whole of the United Kingdom rather than just the three countries of Great Britain.

GB News is set to launch early in the New Year on Freeview, Sky and cable.
