Channel 4 to air live lockdown debate on Sunday

Channel 4 announces plans to air a live debate surrounding the UK's new coronavirus restrictions on Sunday night.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is to host a fast turnaround live debate programme about the UK's new coronavirus restrictions, it has been announced.

This week the government unveiled a new three-tier system that will place different parts in the UK under various restrictions depending on local coronavirus infection rates, with Liverpool and Manchester facing the most severe measures.

The one-hour programme Live: Divided Britain: The Lockdown Debate will air on Channel 4 on Sunday night at 6pm, with a panel of politicians, medical experts and business figures debating the new system.

Louisa Compton, Channel 4's head of news, said: "As the divisions of opinion across the country intensify - this important debate will give a snapshot of public opinion on these recently announced restrictions and ask what should be next for the UK?"

The debate will be filmed in Manchester and feature a socially-distanced audience comprising people from household bubbles.
