BT Sport is reportedly close to agreeing a new deal for continued coverage of European rugby's top two club competitions.

BT Sport is reportedly close to securing a new deal to continue as the exclusive home of European rugby's top two club competitions in the UK and Ireland.

The broadcaster has held the exclusive rights to every game of the Champions Cup and second-tier Challenge Cup since 2018-19, although that agreement expired at the end of 2021-22.

According to Sport Business, BT and the European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) have now agreed a deal "in principle" for a new contract, although the duration of the agreement is yet to be decided.

The publication says that BT - soon to merge with Eurosport owner Discovery - will pay less per season as part of the deal.

BT also has exclusive pay-TV rights to the Gallagher Premiership until the end of the 2023-24 season.
