ITV will air a second six-week series of Big Brother in 2024, it is confirmed.

ITV reality head Paul Mortimer has confirmed that the broadcaster has given the go-ahead to two series of Big Brother.

The much-loved reality show returns to UK TV after a five-year break in October, with a new six-week series airing on ITV2 and streaming platform ITVX.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Mortimer revealed that another six-week run has already been commissioned for 2024.

"This is the start of it so watch this space," he said. "We have really bought into Big Brother.

"A lot of us worked on it before [at different channels] and I can't imagine we are in it just to do two six-week runs."

He added: "It will be a hit. Its looking fantastic. The house looks amazing. We've got a six week run coming up, that's our first foray into it, but it will be back next year of course.

"We have a 10pm show after the 9pm show - so two hours of Big Brother every evening [then] from 11pm you can go to ITVX to watch the live feed into the small hours."

Earlier this year AJ Odudu and Will Best were revealed as the joint hosts of both the live shows and the spinoff programme.
