Former Arsenal right-back Alex Scott is reportedly in the frame to replace Sue Barker as host of A Question of Sport.
Earlier this week it emerged that the long-running quiz show has decided to part ways with 64-year-old Barker after 23 years in the hosting chair, while long-serving team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell are also being shown the door.
According to The Sun, the BBC is now considering Scott for the role after she impressed execs with her punditry work and a stint on last year's Strictly Come Dancing.
"Alex is being lined up as host, as a direct replacement for Sue," a source told the newspaper.
"Like Sue, she's a former sportswoman and she also has five years of broadcasting under her belt.
"She's a natural on camera and, crucially, lives and breathes all things sport.
"This has nothing to do with gender, nor is it a case of the BBC trying to be woke.
"While a lot can happen over the next three months, as things stand Alex is genuinely considered the best woman for the job."
The world's longest-running sports quiz, A Question of Sport has been part of the BBC schedules since 1970.
