Emergency loan system extended by FIFA

FIFA extend the emergency loan period until the 2014-15 season, despite original plans to scrap it at the end of the current campaign.

FIFA have opted to extend the emergency loan system for the lower division clubs in English football.

The system allows clubs in the Football League, as well as non-league outfits, to sign players between transfer windows as they cannot afford big squads.

Despite original plans to scrap the system at the end of the current season, the world governing body has extended the emergency loan period to the close of the 2014-15 campaign.

"It is encouraging news and I'm sure Football League clubs will welcome FIFA's decision to extend the existing loan arrangements for a further 12 months," BBC Sport quotes Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey as saying.

Currently, around 500 emergency loan moves are made in the Football League every year.
