RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff reveals that Timo Werner - strongly linked with Liverpool - is unlikely to extend his contract with the club.

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has revealed that Timo Werner is unlikely to extend his contract with the club.

Werner will see his current deal with Leipzig expire at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.

The 23-year-old is enjoying another productive season with his German club, finding the back of the net on 17 occasions in 31 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool have strongly linked with the centre-forward on a number of occasions and will now be on red alert with the news that he is unlikely to pen an extension.

"We want to extend it with him, but he has signalled to us that he would rather not extend," Mintzlaff told Sky Germany.

Werner has struck 59 goals in 108 games for Leipzig since a 2016 move from Stuttgart, while he has also registered nine times in 24 appearances for the German national side.
