Sky commissions a new event series drama thriller starring Josh Hartnett as well as a new supernatural crime adaptation.

Sky has announced details of two new original drama commissions, including a project starring Josh Hartnett.

The 40 Days and 40 Nights star, who has been living in England with his wife for several years, will headline the miniseries The Fear Index, an adaptation of Robert Harris's best-selling novel.

Hartnett will play a computer expert who develops an AI capable of making big money on the financial markets, but as the product gears up for launch, he endures a nightmareish 24 hours that makes him question his own sanity.

The Fear Index starts filming this week in Hungary and will air on Sky Atlantic as a four-part event series this year.

Sky has also given the go-ahead to The Thriller, an eight-episode supernatural crime drama destined for Sky One.

The show stars Clara Rugaard as Neve, a woman who is disturbed to discover that she is dead - and even more furious to find out that she was murdered, sending her on a crusade to find out what happened and get justice.

"The Rising is a really fresh take on an atmospheric thriller and I'm hugely excited to bring this story to Sky, complete with a great line up of young, emerging talent," said Sky's MD of content Zai Bennett.

"The story of Neve takes audiences on a journey from mystery, suspense and horror, all set to the stunning scenic backdrop of The Lake District."

The show - an adaptation of Belgian crime thriller Hotel Beau Séjour - starts filming next month and will be released in 2022.
