ITV confirms the return of Vicky McClure thriller Trigger Point for a third series.

ITV has given the go-ahead to a third series of drama thriller Trigger Point, the broadcaster has confirmed.

The show, which stars Vicky McClure as a bomb disposal expert, ranks as ITV's second most-watched drama of the year behind only the acclaimed Mr Bates vs The Post Office.

Series three will see McClure's Lana Washington investigate a bomb threat which appears to be the work of someone targeting individuals as part of a sinister vendetta.

"Trigger Point is back! We're all so excited to get going," said McClure. "Having had such a positive response to the previous two series, we want to make the next series even more exciting, keep everyone on the edge of their seats whilst getting to know even more about the brilliant characters in the show.

"Lana is such a complex character to play, it's a joy for an actor to play a role with as many layers as Lana."

ITV drama head Polly Hill added: "I am delighted that Trigger Point will be returning for a third series and Vicky McClure will be reprising her role as Lana Washington.

"There's going to be lots more twists and turns and of course explosions in this third series, viewers are going to love it!"

Filming on the new series begins in London next year.
