Syfy confirms that Chucky - the TV spinoff of the Child's Play franchise - has been axed after three seasons.

Child's Play TV spinoff Chucky has been axed after three seasons, it has been confirmed.

Launched in 2021, the show is a direct continuation of Don Mancini's seven-film horror franchise and sees Brad Dourif reprise his role as the voice of the notorious killer doll.

The show's third season aired on Syfy earlier this year and featured a plot that saw Chucky cause havoc in the White House, but now it has been confirmed that his run on the small screen has come to an end.

"I'm heartbroken over the news that Chucky won't be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have," said Mancini, who first developed the concept almost 40 years ago.

"I'd like to thank UCP/SYFY/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky's cold heart."

He added: "Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back."

Earlier this year Mancini revealed that he is already developing an eighth Chucky movie, which is now likely to directly pick up from where the TV show ended.
