One Direction's 10-year anniversary project revealed to be a website

One Direction will launch a special commemorative website next week to mark 10 years since the group were formed.

One Direction have revealed plans to mark their 10-year anniversary next week by launching a commemorative website.

The five-piece - Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Liam Payne - were formed on July 23, 2010 on ITV's The X Factor and enjoyed huge international success before going on a hiatus in early 2016, several months after Malik quit the group.

With the milestone birthday approaching, in recent months there have been rumours that the boys could reunite, with the possibility of a TV special, a one-off gig and a new single all mooted.

Now it has been confirmed that a new 'celebration' website will be launched on July 23, offering fans the chance to watch music videos, archive performances and a special new film charting the group's history.

Fans will also be able to compile playlists of their favourite songs, browse artwork and watch rarely-seen content.

It is unknown whether the coronavirus pandemic prohibited or delayed more ambitious plans to mark the occasion.
