Katy Perry defends under-fire Ellen DeGeneres

Katy Perry issues a statement giving her backing to "friend" Ellen DeGeneres amid the bad publicity surrounding her long-running talkshow.

Katy Perry has come to the defence of "friend" Ellen DeGeneres as the controversy surrounding her talkshow rumbles on.

Warner Bros is in the midst of conducting an internal investigation into the show, which has been on the air for 17 years, following multiple allegations about its workplace environment.

Executive producers have been accused of inappropriate behaviour - with some former employees even alleging sexual misconduct - while separately, DeGeneres's "nice" persona has been called into question by former colleagues and other figures in the industry.

Perry has appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show multiple times during her career and posted a statement backing the comedian on her Twitter account.

"I know I can't speak for anyone else's experience besides my own but I want to acknowledge that I have only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @theellenshow," she wrote.

"I think we all have witnessed the light & continual fight for equality that she has brought to the world through her platform for decades. Sending you love & a hug, friend @TheEllenShow ♥️"

The talkshow is currently airing repeats during the summer break but is due to return for a new season early next month despite the ongoing controversy.
