Alex George gives first interview since younger brother's suicide

Doctor Alex George admits that he will "never get over" the death of his younger brother by suicide.

Doctor Alex George has said that he will "never get over" the loss of his younger brother Llyr in July.

The 19-year-old took his life after a battle with mental health issues, just weeks before he was due to follow in his big brother's footsteps by starting medical school.

Appearing on Lorraine today, 30-year-old Alex said that he had not foreseen the tragic incident and admitted feeling "tremendous guilt" that he had not been able to help his brother.

"It's been the toughest time of my life imaginable. It's something as a family that we never expected," he said.

"We were so excited for Llyr to go to medical school. We were all looking forward to the future and the pandemic coming to an end.

"My life is before and after this. I'll never get over it.

"I felt tremendous guilt. I am his older brother, I'm supposed to protect him."

In the wake of Llyr's death, Alex has vowed to become a fierce advocate for mental health awareness.
