The Spice Girls reportedly start working on plans for a follow-up to 1997 movie Spice World.

The Spice Girls have reportedly contacted "a renowned screenwriter" to work on a possible sequel to their 1997 movie Spice World.

The film - released at the height of the group's '90s fame - saw the girls star as themselves in a parody storyline involving a huge gig at the Royal Albert Hall.

Spice World brought in more than £72 million at the worldwide box office, around four times its budget, however it was generally panned by the critics.

According to The Sun, Geri Horner is leading the charge for the follow-up and has Mel C, Mel B and Emma Bunton "tentatively on board" - although Victoria Beckham has yet to be convinced to take part.

"The girls have been talking about how to mark the film's anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel," a source told the newspaper.

"They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward.

"It is still in the early stages but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big-screen comeback seriously."

The group last reunited - without Beckham - for a tour of the UK and Ireland in 2019 and have tentative plans for a follow-up worldwide tour in 2022.
