Christina Ricci joins the cast of the new The Matrix movie in an unspecified role.

Christina Ricci has joined the cast of the upcoming new movie in The Matrix franchise in an unspecified role.

The fourth film was confirmed in 2019 as somewhat of a surprise announcement as producers the Wachowski sisters had never intended to follow up the original trilogy, which ended in 2003 with The Matrix Revolutions.

Lead stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith are all returning for the new installment, alongside the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff and Priyanka Chopra in mystery roles.

According to Variety, The Addams Family actress Ricci has been added to the cast list in a new press information pack for the film, although no details about her character have been provided.

The Matrix 4 is due for release on December 22.
