EastEnders star Thomas Law has said that his character Peter Beale will be returning to the Square as a "more mature" man this time around.
In an episode which aired in June, Peter's mother Cindy (Michelle Collins) was revealed to still be alive and living in France with her ex Ian (Adam Woodyatt).
The three characters will all be back in Walford from this week, however, with Peter arriving first after learning that he has two half-sisters.
"He goes back to the Square in quite a hurry as he's been gifted what he perceives to be the greatest gift – having more family," explained Law.
"He's lost so many of his family over his lifetime so a chance that he can have more sisters is a good enough reason from him to travel back."
Law previously played the part of Peter between 2006 and 2010, with Ben Hardy and more recently Dayle Hudson assuming the role, but Law had no issues getting back into character.
"It was easier in a way because they wanted to show a more mature and put together side of Peter this time around," he continued.
"I played Peter for such a long time so I felt like I really knew him but Adam and Michelle made it easy for me to get back into the role too as I had to harness onto the fact that Peter just really loves his mum and dad.
"That was pretty easy for me to do, because I do love them both. That's not to say that I wasn't nervous on the first day on set but all my nerves went away when I started to work with them."
EastEnders continues Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
