Returning Doctor Who executive producer Russell T Davies has revealed that Jodie Whittaker's final episode will be 90 minutes in length.
Whittaker will bow out as The Doctor this autumn in a special episode that will see her regenerate, at which point Ncuti Gatwa will assume her role and Davies takes back over as showrunner.
Davies is thought to have already penned the scene that will air at the end of that episode, and speaking to The Sun, he revealed that her swansong will be the show's longest episode since it returned to the airwaves in 2005.
"She's got an enormous finale, epic finale, 90-minute finale in October," he said.
"We're polite gentlemen, it's only right and fair to shut up. 2023, you'll be fed up of us, we'll be everywhere, but until then, we bow to Jodie and love her and step back."
Filming on Gatwa's first full series as The Doctor is expected to begin imminently for transmission in late 2023.
