ITV is reportedly keen for Ryan Thomas to make his upcoming return to Coronation Street a permanent one.
The 40-year-old is reprising his role as Jason Grimshaw - son of Eileen (Sue Cleaver) - after nine years away to coincide with his on-screen mum's exit storyline.
After leaving the cobbles Thomas decided to retire from acting and was only persuaded to return for a brief stint to honour Cleaver, but The Sun says that producers are now trying to tempt him to stay for longer.
"Ryan's return has been on the cards for a while," a source said. "There were hopes he would come back on a more permanent basis but it'll always be dependent on whether Ryan wants to go back or not.
"ITV have been buttering him up to return by giving him and his brother a new game show to host. They want to make him to know how much they value him."
Thomas is thought to have filmed his scenes last week, suggesting that he may be back on screen in June.
