Coronation Street legend Bill Roache signs a new one-year deal keeping him on the soap until at least 2024.

Bill Roache has agreed a new deal keeping him on Coronation Street until at least 2024.

The 90-year-old has played Ken Barlow on the soap continuously since it began in December 1960 - a world record as the longest-serving TV actor in an ongoing role.

Roache has spoken openly about his desire to remain on the cobbles and recently set the ambition of being the first 100-year-old to be a regular cast member of a TV soap.

According to The Sun, the actor has now agreed a new 12-month deal worth £250,000 which will mean that Ken will remain on screen until at least early 2024.

A show source told the newspaper: "Ken Barlow has been at the heart of Coronation Street since it started 62 years ago and that's not changing any time soon.

"And as we've seen with his recent love triangle storyline, he's no plans to slow down.

"Bosses have big plans for his character next year."

Earlier this week Roache was awarded an OBE by King Charles in recognition of his services to acting.
