On a riverbank, a group of lads spot a body floating in the water - it's Joel. Kit informs Dee-Dee and Lauren that Joel is dead, while Lisa reveals the news in the Rovers. After a post-mortem reveals that Joel was dead before he hit the water, Kit opens a murder investigation and starts by quizzing Lauren about her movements on the night of September 27.

Nick learns that Rowan has pleaded not guilty to fraud and blackmail so the case will be going to trial. Later, when Sam sees Nick and a female customer getting on well he informs her that Nick is engaged and warns her off.

Kit tells Lisa that Joel died from two blow the heads, most likely from a crowbar - and later, she's shocked when Yasmeen tells her that she threw Mason out because they found him hiding a crowbar. Lisa tells an intrigued Betsy to steer well clear of Mason.

Having been warned by Betsy that the police are on to him, Mason tries to dispose of the crowbar in a bin behind the factory but is caught in the act by Kit.
