Recap: Big Brother Australia episode three - Cage in a Cage

A recap of the third episode of Big Brother Australia as another housemate bites the dust.

Spoiler warning: This article contains details about Big Brother Australia which some readers may wish to avoid.

The final four contestants joined the Big Brother Australia house in episode three, although their entrance was somewhat unconventional.

As the house awoke on day six, they were greeted by the four new arrivals - Danni Keogh, a 34-year-old call centre worker; Hannah Campbell, a 26-year-old comms specialist and AFL player; Shane Vincent, a 39-year-old marriage celebrant; and Soobong Hwang, aka 'S-bong', a 48-year-old delivery driver - who arrived in a cage that was winched over the wall into the BB garden.

Sarah was quick to recognise Hannah from their group audition for the show, telling Talia: "She's someone I was dreading. This girl isn't even out of her cage yet and she's already made a bad impression on me."

Big Brother then announced that the new housemates would be part of this week's shopping challenge - for every hour the existing housemates kept them locked in the cage, they would win $50 towards their shopping budget.

The group had a debate on how long they should leave them imprisoned, with Garth and a hungry Daniel pushing for four hours. Meanwhile, Hannah did little to endear herself to Talia by guessing that she worked as a stripper.

After three hours and with the temperature rising, the group decided to release the new arrivals and settle for a budget of $150 - much to the delight of Angela, who was craving a cup of tea."Just speaking about it, I'm salivating," she confessed in the diary room. "Can you imagine waking up with a cup of tea, not just a cracker?"

S-bong left the group impressed with his physique, seemingly unaware that in doing so he was painting himself as a threat. "My plan is to become a Terminator," he told BB. "I will show them that this guy is not just [a] normal guy. He is [a] weapon. Any challenge facing me, I will take it, swallow it, digest it and poo it out."

For the nominations challenge, the 18 housemates were paired up at random and had to stand on different-sized podiums in an attempt to last the longest.

After 30 minutes, five pairs were remaining and had to make a transition to the smallest podium. Only one survived the transition, with Talia and Sarah declared as the joint winners.

Making their nominations, both decided on Hannah straight away, with Sarah describing it as an "easy choice", with the physical prowess of Soobong making him the second target. The pair debated long and hard over the third and eventually settled on Marissa.

When the nominations were revealed, Marissa in particular appeared to take it badly, leaving Sarah in tears. "We had to put up someone," Sarah told her when asked for her reasons. "You're friends with everyone. You're a very strong competitor."

"Obviously I'm a threat somehow for you to nominate me," Marissa replied, "because why didn't you nominate one of the guys? It's all cool. I'm done."

Speaking to BB later, she added: "I suppose a little bit disappointed and surprised. I still want to be here. I can only be who I am, but it's now shown me this one dominant group. Talia's queen and she's playing this game with Dan. I can see their true colours and I know my next gameplan."

Marissa's behaviour left some questioning whether they should vote for her, but in the end she garnered just two votes, as did Hannah, meaning that with 12 votes against him, a gutted Soobong was shown the door.

"Maybe I was over-confident but if I was a threat to them, I've got to take it. Because that's what I am," he said after leaving. "My message for housemates is - have fun, enjoy and make a big smile. That's what I wanted to do so I want you to do exactly the same for me."

Big Brother Australia continues Sunday night on Seven.
